The South Asian and Middle Eastern Section / Tibetan Collection

Libarary Resources - South Asia, or Middle East, or Tibetan

The South Asia and Middle East Specialist selects and manages materials in support of academic programs. He works in close consultation with the Center for South Asian Studies, the division of Asian and Middle Eastern Languages and Cultures, and the Tibetan program in the Religious Studies department. He organizes and conducts reference sessions and provides blibliographic and electronic instruction. Materials are mainly acquired through the Library of Congress offices (the old PL 480 program) in Cairo (Egypt), Islamabad (Pakistan), and Delhi (India) on their approval plans with the University of Virginia profiles. Over the past 30 years, the University of Virginia has selected, acquired, and built one of the outstanding Tibetan collections, along with substantial South Asia, and Middle East research materials.
