update for CONSALD list in preparation for
AAS meeting, March 2001
We have made great progress since last year.�
I have broken this update into sections. The first section
covers resources currently up on DSAL, the second is a list
of resources that are being worked on and the third are
issues and standards that we have �dealt� with in some
fashion.

2. Being Processed
*This section is to let you all know what is on the
horizon, I can not promise delivery dates for the following
Journals
We are currently working on a digital journal interface
We are looking at JSTOR for ideas of text delivery and
functionality. At this time we have a prototype test up for
one volume of the Social Scientist, this allows for full
text searching, display of page images and printing of
PDFs.� The URL for the test site is:

Books
We have data for a number of books in Indic languages. We have begun to deliver Indic scripts over the web using
Unicode.
- F. Prichett�s Ab-e Hayat

- Koveru Kazhudaigal by Imaiyam
We are also looking into offering all of our books in PDF
format for ease of printing.
Books in roman. We are in the middle of discussions with
some of the area studies centers around the country about
bringing up various titles published by the centers. Other
books being worked on include:

India. (all 26 volumes)
- Katha short story

- Statistical abstract
relating to British India
- The film for this set has been ordered
from LOC and will be sent onto to India for scanning once it
arrives in Chicago. The information will be presented in both a �page turner� interface as well as being available in
spreadsheet format.
- The first year is
being entered in Excel spreadsheets as a test.
Images
- British Library. We have images
from the BL for part of their photography collection. The
images have all been sized, tables of data have been loaded
and the interface is designed, we are currently working
final programming for the web searches.
- AIIS. We just received a CD
from AIIS with data for a test website. The data is from
the Architecture collection. (AIIS is preparing the data
for sculpture, numismatics, and paintings). There are some
difficulties with data formats but we are working through
that currently.

Many of these dictionaries�are accessible at
http://dsal.uchicago.edu/dictionaries/index2.html� At
the moment, only headwords are searchable.� You will notice
that some of the SGML entities used during data input still
are not converted.� We also have not yet
quot;populated" the fields for display of the
appropriate�scripts.
